We all knew about the duel between HTC Diamond and Samsung Omnia. Many complained that Omnia’s 400×240 pixels resolution wasn’t enough for a hi-end smartphone in 2008 (HTC Diamond has a 640×480 display). But Samsung was the clear winner of mobile device vendors market this year and it seems that Samsung is listening the user’s opinion. We have two new Omnia versions (Korean & Japanese), both with 800×480 resolutions, and the Korean Samsung Omnia features Windows Mobile.
The Korean version of Samsung Omnia will have 4GB (SCH-M490) or 16GB (SCH-M495) of internal memory that can be used for recording many hours of TV shows and movies, because now it has a mobile TV receiver with satellite DMB! The OS of this beauty is a Korean version of Windows Mobile 6.1 spiced with Samsung’s TouchWiz UI. The screen (3.3″) is a little bit larger than Omnia’s 3.22″ regular one. The phone brings the same 5 MP camera (capable of auto-focus and image stabilizer) from the european Omnia, WiFi, integrated GPS and bluetooth. Due to the new futures, sadly, the box will have 115.2 x 58.1 x 13.65 mm (larger than the old one).
Some rumours say that SCH-M495 might be a serious contestant for the new HTC Touch HD (also top specifications and WXGA resolution). That remains to see, considering that Samsung said they have no plans to sell this phone outside of Korea.
